NFL adjusts its COVID-19 guidelines, modifying the quarantine period from 10 days to five
On the heels of the CDCs new guidelines that have shortened the window of isolation for individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19, the NFL and NFL Players Association agreed on Tuesday to shorten the amount of time that team personnel will have to quarantine.
In accordance with the CDC recommendation to shorten the period of isolation from 10 days to five days, the NFL will now allow individuals who are asymptomatic to return after five days. This reduction from 10 to five days applies to players who are vaccinated and unvaccinated alike, as well as coaches and other football support staff members, all of whom are required to be vaccinated.
This means players potentially could return to action in a shorter timeframe, which lessens the risk that squads will have to play without key players.
The NFL in recent weeks had already modified protocols, doing away with the mandate for weekly testing for vaccinated individuals. Now, vaccinated personnel members only must test if they report symptoms, or if they are selected for the random spot testing. Unvaccinated players still must test daily.
