Drew Brees no longer with NBC Sports due to 'lifestyle choice,' chairman says

Drew Brees is officially done at NBC Sports after one year.

NBC Sports chairman Pete Bevacqua said in a phone interview with The Associated Press that Brees will not be a part of the network's NFL and Notre Dame coverage this year. The New York Post reported last month that the former quarterback would not be coming back as a studio or game analyst.

Following that report, Brees took to social media and said he had not decided his future.

Bevacqua said conversations with Brees have centered around him wanting to spend more time with family.

Apparently you're supposed to sell your soul to the network? Although spousal unit says his true problem was a wooden on-air personality.....

Eh, he wants some time off.

Remember, Brees at San Diego set off a chain of events that changed football. Rivers to SD and Eli to the Giants. Brees didn’t clear his physical with Miami and Saban ended up at Alabama.

"Apparently you're supposed to sell your soul to the network?"

It's not even implied

"When it comes to who will call Notre Dame games and fill Brees' NFL studio spot, Bevacqua said they are closing in on a final decision."

Don't see how that implies Brees was "supposed to" do anything, let alone sell his soul.

And the penultimate line says:
"Even though Brees remains under contract to NBC, Bevacqua said they wouldn't stand in the way if another opportunity came along for Brees. Fox has an opening for an analyst on its No. 2 NFL team, but it is likely Brees will spend the season at home"

Hardly suggests anything malicious on the side of NBC.

Still don't get where you're coming up with your assertion, but whatever, it's just sport announcing, hardly that important

The one where "the discussion revolved around Brees wanting to spend more time with his family". What about that do you not get? Sounds to me like the network wanted his every minute. But whatever.

Being an expert at one thing doesn't mean you are skilled at adjacent tasks. If anyone wants to use the "time with family" excuse to avoid the more embarrassing "well, he sucked and viewers hated it which was bad for ratings," that is a polite fiction I'm okay with in this case.
