(33,643 posts)Cept I'm a pick 'em on the Giants/Vikes. No idea on that one.

(31,775 posts)My picks are not based on the odds. I like the the teams in BF:
Bills vs. Dolphins
Opening point spread: Bills -9
Opening point total: 46
Opening moneyline: Bills -435, Dolphins +350
Bengals vs. Ravens*
Opening point spread: Bengals -5.5
Opening point total: 44
Opening moneyline: Bengals -225, Ravens +190
Jaguars vs. Chargers
Opening point spread: Chargers -2.5
Opening point total: 46.5
Opening moneyline: Chargers -140, Jaguars +120
Giants vs. Vikings
Opening point spread: Vikings -3
Opening point total: TBD
Opening moneyline: Vikings -150, Vikings +130
Cowboys vs. Buccaneers
Opening point spread: Cowboys -3
Opening point total: TBD
Opening moneyline: Cowboys -165, Bucs +140
Seahawks vs. 49ers
Opening point spread: 49ers -9.5
Opening point total: TBD
Opening moneyline: 49ers -460, Seahawks +370
Betting the odds:
If Lamar Jackson starts I take Baltimore to beat the spread. High ankle sprain would likely limit his running but it doesn't make him immobile.
Looks like Tua is out so I'll go with Buffalo to cover. If Tua plays I'll take Miami to beat the spread.
I'll take Seattle to beat the spread but 49ers to win. Shanahan will rest starters with a lead allowing 4th quarter scores by the Seahawks. 9 1/2 is a lot to give.

AFC: Jags. Bengals. Bills
NFC: Cowboys. Vikings. Niners

(20,141 posts)to knock off the Chargers. I hesitated on that one. The Chargers have the better talent overall, IMO, but been scuffling for much of the season. Jacksonville was on the upswing in the second half.
ProfessorGAC
(69,745 posts)They finished fast.
I'm iffy on the Vikings but they just keep winning & Jefferson is a problem for any defense.
The rest I'll stand by, and if I'm wrong, then I'm wrong.

(69,745 posts)And Bills are up 17-0.
I'm typically as good as a coin flip, so at least I can't do worse than that.
True Dough
(20,141 posts)Did you count the Jags out at that point? I sure did! What a comeback!
ProfessorGAC
(69,745 posts)I figured it was over, but the Chargers "Chargered".
True Dough
(20,141 posts)the way Brock Purdy handled the Seahawks, particularly closing things out in the fourth quarter while surrounded by rich talent, or the way Trevor Lawrence struggled mightily in the first half and turned things around so dramatically with rather mediocre talent on the Jacksonville roster?
ProfessorGAC
(69,745 posts)I didn't watch the whole SF/Sea game and did watch a bunch of the other.
But, the Niners defense is so good, I think a young QB has less stress about making a mistake. The D very well might erase a mistake.
Lawrence doesn't have that luxury. And, his mistakes DID cost his team but he played very good QB and the team believed they still had a chance. That's one of the intangibles we hear about. Guy is in his 2nd year and the team is HIS.
All that said, I think Purdy could be really good. He seems like one of those guys who could stay calm if he was on fire!
True Dough
(20,141 posts)I am surprised by the tenacity that we're seeing from the Dolphins today, especially with a third-string QB and against one of the top teams in the league.
ProfessorGAC
(69,745 posts)Guy with limited game experience and they're not trying to rattle him.
As I've read, Miami's O line is pretty good. He's got way too much time back there.
True Dough
(20,141 posts)If he was hurried, he'd surely be making more mistakes.

ETA: The picks are for who wins.
ProfessorGAC
(69,745 posts)I only got 4 right. The Giants' passing game was better than I thought, and I overestimated the Cowboys' penchant for playing small in big moments.

(65,143 posts)Though the Cowboys missed four xps! I guess the fifth time was the charm.
