Woohoo. He took a team that was in the playoffs two years ago (rallied by QB Derek Carr after the Rush car wreck deaths and the Gruden racist debacle), and the team became a loser, 9-25, for the year and half he was head coach.
And btw, he not only benched Carr who had got the team off to 10+ point first half leads in 6 games only to see McDaniels' defense lose those games in the second half, as I said, he not only benched Carr, he sent him home, out of the building and made him the scapegoat for the team losing.
I was saying last year after he did that to Carr that McDaniels was a sorry coach and needed to go. Mark Davis finally got it an fired him, the OC coordinator and the GM in the middle of the night last night after the team's inept showing on Monday Night Football. It was embarrassing and the whole nation saw it.
Oh, and the "great" QB pick up McDaniels bought in, Garapallo and the OC coordinator, couldn't figure out how to get the ball to the best receiver in the league, Devante Adams.
That pair also got rid of Darren Waller, a standout tight end, wouldn't pay their league-leading running back Josh Jacobs who held out and didn't get pre-season work, they just about disappeared effective slot receiver Hunter Renfrow from getting targeted in the games...they just all together screwed up and didn't know what the hell they were doing.
McDaniels failed in Denver as a HC (riding his rep as OC with the Patriots, but it shows clearly now that anybody could appear to be good when Tom Brady was your QB, even Bill Belichick.
I say kudos to Mark Davis for this decisive move...this from a long-time Raider fan who goes all the way back the glory days of the Mad Bomber, Ken Stabler, Cliff Branch, Jack Tatum, the Mad Stork, Jim Plunkett, Marcus Allen, Ben Davidson and all the great players when the franchise was one of the great ones, went to 5 Super Bowls and won 3.

You probably know Brady is a part-owner of the Raiders now, but we need a young, innovative coach like that other McDaniels, Mike, in Miami, or maybe Eric Bieniemy who has made the Washington team competitive with his play calling. No one would give him a chance at HC. I say give him a shot.

(28,392 posts)The general concensus seems to be-
(1) Time for a new coach. It was Brady that made Bill the HC he was.
(2) Bill's sour demeanor in post game press conferences is more problematic now that he's in a 4 year losing ja

His head coach decisions are... disappointing (to say it as politely as possible).
Will next time be different? One can only hope.

(57,567 posts)Now lets see what he does. Getting Harbaugh out of Michigan would be a good move. I also would like someone to give Eric Bieniemy a shot at HC. He's doing a good job as OC in making the Washington team competitive. They almost beat the Eagles on Sunday.

I hear the Bears fans clamoring for him but if Rivera gets fired in DC (looks like they sold off their season) he may get the Bears job first.

I dont see the sign stealing thing going very far but who knows.
From PTI yesterday. The sign stealer rose up from the background a couple times.

(186,672 posts)Good article here on why Washington made these moves. Both are free agents at the end of the year and they went 4-2 last year without both so it was decided to spend money elsewhere. Young appears to be a headache. Hurt a lot and he doesnt follow the called plays which messes everything else up. Washington thinks they can get production for less money. Also they will have 5 picks now out of the first 100 draft picks and have $90M to spend in free agency (with picks to deal with too).
Looks like new ownership has more of a long range plan and I dont see them doing that with a new coaching staff too.

I think we can put to bed the "Belichek vs Brady" wars too...
Belichek is an a$$ who wouldn't have won squat without Brady.
Can we knock this ignorant, smarmy, arrogant prick off his pedestal yet? Belicheck, I mean...
And if any team is dumb enough to hire Mcdaniels to do anything but sweep the floor, well that is on them and they deserve everything they get.
Enough of this "belicheck coaching tree' bullshit. They have ALL failed.
