I have sworn off watching golf, any golf. It is going to be hard as hell to not watch Tiger play in the Masters. I played golf in High School, so I got the bug early. Who knows this may be the last time we see Tiger play a major event. Shit I am conflicted.

(6,918 posts)Sure, theres an aspect of personal protest but in this case
to what end. Im a pragmatist on this stuff. If I can do something with a chance of influencing future behaviors, Im in. Doing stuff to reverse a past decision, especially against one of the deepest global pockets of money
I say live your life.
Even if you and your closest 800,000 friends decide to boycott the masters telecasts
do you see Saudi saying meh
maybe we were wrong about this.
Good luck with the decision.

(3,721 posts)Even my wife agrees with you. I used to just watch on the weekends. Since retirement during golf season I watched all four days every weekend so my wife was not really into it and she agrees with you.
Sometimes I can be a ridiculously stubborn old goat. I am working on it.

(31,775 posts)I've lost interest, and not necessarily because of Saudi involvement. It's just different now ... dumbed down by media, maybe. Or for ratings.
My grandfather was a scratch golfer and hustled games during the Depression. He spent so much time away from my grandmother that she organized a family intervention, during which, the story goes, my grandfather had the TV turned on to ... golf.
My dad was pretty decent too. Played in a league Friday nights and almost every Saturday morning. Every weekend, without fail, the TV was tuned to whatever tournament was airing. Family gatherings? Centered around the TV. With golf.
I suck at the game.

(31,775 posts)My world revolved around Palmer, Sneed, Nicklaus, Player, January, Littler, Rodríguez, Trevino, Floyd (to name a few). I knew them all. My dad worshipped Palmer.

(11,111 posts)The Masters tournament was criticized by 9/11 families for inviting LIV golfers to play. I'll watch Tiger play, hope he makes the cut.

(3,721 posts)I just wanted to put it all behind me and move on. I have a great set of Pings and I have not even hit the range. Best set I ever had. I am gnawing at the bit to just let it go. Hell the Saudi's are even getting into tennis. What the fuck am I going to watch if I treat tennis the same way I am treating golf.

(57,391 posts)How do they even rank the golfers now when the PGA tour players still play four-day tournaments and the LIV sellouts play three day events and on teams?
It's almost two different sports now.

(24,989 posts)but I believe that Trump is behind LIV. When the PGA and the Brits pulled major tournaments from Trump courses I believe he found a way to try to get even.
I hope the hell the merger never happens, if it does I am also done with watching golf. I am 76 years old and still haven't moved up to the senior tees. I golf with someone who is 91 years old and is still darned good, he has no problem shooting under his age.
Watch the Masters and root against the golfers who deserted the tour.

(3,721 posts)I found it unsatisfying. Rooting for people to miss. Like I have for years with Phil or Patric Reed. The list is so long now the negativity kind of ruins it for me. KIND OF.
IF I watch this is most likely the technique I will use. Money grubbing fucks. See I already started.
