(20,818 posts)after my mother passed and he was the sole driver, my brother and I got him some crepe soled shoes. It didn't help, he still drove like someone was going to steal the road before he got there.

(28,258 posts)I can't imagine driving a manual with high heals. Worse than boots, I would think. Just too weird. I think I'd drive barefoot if I was confronted with that choice.

(10,172 posts)Tobin can drive for hours without using the clutch, with a 13 speed Roadranger.
He could drive my full provenance ProShifted, A833 Drag racing transmission from here to LA without grinding a gear, at road speed. Don Carlton could carry the front wheels through 3 shifts in the same style trans, In the famed Motown Missle.
I tried one on a test day at Loudon (road course), under ideal shoes, pedals, and an exquisite clutch, with a stout W2 340. Maybe God could shift it,or Bill Rutan. If I missed a demi step in "footbox ballet", the mayhem was more than I wanted to manage on Mt. Washington! I sweated liquid sodium until Liberty Gear MADE a new, OE style, synchromesh input shaft,from an old ProShift one. I got it in my hand in time to put it in the transmission, help my "crew" swing it in, and load the car. I may have grabbed a shower before the train rolled out. Liberty ate the airfreight bill, because awesome.
No single answer exists. Uncle Tiny and I take a size 14 boot, Tobin ain't a midget. Before I had racing shoes, a Herman "Soft Sole" workboot worked best, 'cuz you didn't have to ducttape the laces. Chuck Taylors dissolve from all the things that happen in a race car.

I had a pretty thorough rebuild on my clutch last year (Linkage, throwout and clutch bearings,etc). 2007 VW Passat, 2.0T, 6 Spd, 115K
I had an odd failure with the clutch a couple of days ago. Pedal to floor, no return. That's what I fixed last year~ This time, I was able to recover by moving the pedal back up to it's proper position and it sorta reacts OK. But it's not in the mode where I feel comfortable with the expected clutch/gear performance.
The problem happened when I was wearing my Maine Winter Show Boots...

(10,172 posts)Is like demonic possession, at random intervals. I drove a Saab 99EMS in Sorels all winter, but the trick was to use my big toe to operate the throttle.
