Subaru Clear Flood Mode Cranking to Prime the Engine to Prevent Dry Starts After an Oil Change

.

This pressurizes your oil system and fills the top-mounted oil filter before actually starting the car.

In effect, this technique could replace the need for a oil preluber and should be standard on all cars.

does the same thing. I believe most fuel injected vehicles do. I do this after the vehicle has been sitting several days.

This feature is mean to clear engine cylinders if they become flooded with fuel. This is a MUST do if you are changing oil on turbocharged engines, and also a good thing to do if you're starting an engine in extreme cold weather. Just make sure you don't touch or press the brake pedal; otherwise, the engine might start (and you don't want to do that with the accelerator floored).

On pre-2000 cars, you can replicate clear flood by pulling the fuel pump fuse from the fuse block, then crank the engine.
