I quite distinctly remember the F1 as a 15-year old kid. I wanted it more than anything on Earth.
I just may want the P1 more. I know McLarens are "soulless", but can't one find a soul in such pure perfection?

(4,941 posts)I just have a soft spot for McLarens. Plus I think it looks much better
Let's not forget the LaFerrari, though. My least favorite of the 3 hyperhybrids, but those numbers...950bhp in a 2700lb car. 40hp more than the McL, 65 up on the Porsche; 300lbs less than the McL and a thousand pounds lighter than the Porsche. That thing is going to be utterly sociopathic.
(I say the McL is going to be faster than the 918 on the Top Gear track but I'm not changing my name if it is)

(10,201 posts)Yep the McL weighs in at about 600lbs less than the 918.
Yep the McL has an additional 16hp more than the 918.
Yep the unofficial lap time on the NB ring, came in 10 seconds faster than the 918 at 6:47.
But... Here is my thinking.
Torque... The 918 has an additional 230lbf-ft over the McL. This is why their 0-62 times are identical. And the standing quarter mile times are within 1 10th of a second.
10 seconds over more than 12.8 mile track, while considerable, will not reflect the challenges of the Top Gear track. I feel that the Porsche breaks, suspension, vehicle weight, and torque will be an advantage in the corners of the track. Not to mention the AWD of the Porsche will help with over/under steer.
There are not enough straights for the McL to make up the time in my opinion.
I do not care about the track conditions (you may), so if they run the McL on a good and dry day, and run the Porsche on a damp or wet day, I'll still pay up.

(4,941 posts)It's going to be close, and I'm sure they'll both be in the dry, but I think the edge is going to go to the P1 because the chassis was born and raised at Dunsfold Park - it's McLaren's test site.
Either way, you're on
