I favor the Chevy as I had a '57 Chevy Bel Air with a 283 ci back in the day.

OP
Agreed. And it's descendants, so to speak, are still available as 350 ci crate engines...

My 65 Chevy had a 283, the lead sled, I was up in Maine, and it was down 3 quarts, great engine for a moron.

I beg to differ, the 65 Impala was okay, the 2 door, 67 Impala was beautiful. We had a marine blue one, with

Okay, but you could argue that both the 67 and 68 had triple taillights, only the 67's were classy; the 68's were stupid

that generate gobs of power.

(6,610 posts)3. Had a '56 chev with a 265; similar to the 283. Loved it.

(57,272 posts)4. The 265 was the first, then the 283, 327 and finally the 350.
all descendants of the 265.
I think there were bored out 283 variants... 301 and 302 came along in the early '00s...first by performance shops then by GM itself.

(6,610 posts)6. Just my two cents..
The' 65 was the last decent looking Chev.
I think that makes me old school.

(57,272 posts)7. I remember them...the long, near fastback look.
I'm partial to the 3 tri-five Chevies myself.

the long sweeping rear window, that was stunning. It also had a 283, if I had that and our 57 Impala, I'd be a happy camper.

I was just missing the triple tail lights from '58 to '65.

(11,874 posts)12. Actually, I stopped paying attention after that. The 57 through 67 Impala's were the bomb. Okay, maybe not the 61.

but I had. 61 bubbletop I loved.
And let's not get started on what they did to the '68 Vette.
