Tested a Model S the other day.

I was down in the St. Louis area visiting my sister, brother in law, and their feline kiddos.

Since there is a Tesla Store in that area I decided to take the opportunity to go visit the store so I could salivate over the Teslas they had there. I was able to take this one out on a test drive.



It had the autopilot feature so the sales person had me turn that on. She had me take my hands off the wheel so I could actually see the car driving itself. It was pretty neat but I did get a little nervous when it got a bit close to the cars in the adjacent lanes.

1. My daughter bought one last November.

It doesn't have the autopilot feature, though.

Model S, P85D. It's a sweet ride, looks pretty bare bones in the interior, but really hauls ass on the highway. I was surprised by how much you can feel the weight of the car. It felt like driving a souped up tank, but pretty nimble.

2. Yeah if I could swing it financially I'd probably get one.

The nice thing is that with the placement of the Tesla superchargers in the Midwest I could get to Chicago, the Twin Cities, Milwaukee, and Green Bay and only need to stop once to recharge and be on my way within an hour. St. Louis looks a bit trickier though, I'd probably have to go over to Normal - which is a bit out of the way - to use the supercharger then go down to St. Louis. If I was getting a Tesla I'd hope they'd put a charger up in Peoria. (Or better yet put some along the Avenue of the Saints though I know that probably would be a long ways off).

3. Yeah, they're pricey.

I think that, with tax and license, she paid just over 100k. She opted for some kind of upgrade on the seats that wasn't cheap.

My wife and I are solidly in the Nissan Altima class when it comes to car shopping.

4. Well they are coming out with the Model 3

It's closer to what I would consider price-wise.
