Giants Beat Royals in Game 7 to Win Title

Source: ny times

The San Francisco Giants won their third championship in five years with a 3-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals in the deciding Game 7 of the World Series on Wednesday.

Madison Bumgarner was the star of the Series for the Giants. After allowing just one run in 16 innings in two winning starts in the Series, he turned in another outstanding performance in Game 7, this time in relief.

Pitching on just two days’ rest, in the unfamiliar role of reliever, Bumgarner pitched the game’s final five innings, giving up two hits and no runs.

The Giants loaded the bases against Jeremy Guthrie, the Royals’ starter, with nobody out in the second inning. Back-to-back sacrifice flies gave them a 2-0 lead.

Kansas City, Mo. — One hundred times they won for each other.

They won 100 games for a manager who would just as soon bang his big head against a wall than publicly doubt them. They won 100 for a city that loves them and has come to expect the joy they have brought in this championship era.

As fate would have it, the Giants’ 100th win in 2014 made them kings of Major League Baseball once again.

They are World Series champions for the third time in five seasons after defying the odds for a road team in Game 7 and beating the Royals 3-2 in a brisk chill at Kauffman Stadium.

Michael Morse gave the Giants that lead with a fourth-inning single and the San Francisco bullpen, most notably Madison Bumgarner, pitched 7 1/3 shutout innings to deliver another parade for titletown – San Francisco.

That was a great series, even if my team didn't win. We played really good, and the outcome was uncertain until the last out of the ninth inning!

And the Giants...The Giants are a class act, all the way around! Well done!

And it's complete chaos outside my apartment right off Mission Street. Good natured people and cops on hand, but not overbearing.

City Hall is lit up in Giants Orange:
