Fun fact: Pete was the son of ganeshow host Peter Marshall. Pete was a fan favorite with the Cubs even though he wasn't an every day player.
IIRC, that slam he hit off Bob was the only one he had in the majors.

6. IIRC Hoot Gibson was hit by a line drive by a Pirate shattering his leg.

He kept on pitching til they got him out of there. I am pretty sure if he were a Cardinal today, Ohtani would see a lot of high heat inside near that injured and exposed right elbow.

They also lowered the pitcher's mound for he was too dominant. And for maybe a few others.

7. His ERA Was Barely Over 1.1!!!

THIRTEEN Shutouts. And he had 28 complete games! His strikeout to walk ratio was >4.
Fergie Jenkins had an ERA of 2.4 something and was NOT in the top ten for that stat.
Carl Yazstremski led MLB in batting average with .301. He was the only guy in MLB who hit .300 that year.
That's how dominant pitching was just before they lowered the mound.
