Alvin Dark, All-Star shortstop and manager, dies at 92

Alvin Dark, an All-Star shortstop with the New York Giants who went on to manage the 1974 Oakland A's to a World Series title, died Thursday. He was 92.

Dark was selected major league Rookie of the Year with the Boston Braves in 1948, the start of a 13-season career in which he hit .289/.333/.411 with 126 home runs. He played for the Braves, Giants, Cardinals, Cubs and Phillies.
