Reggie Jackson and the 1978 World Series

Last edited Mon Jul 6, 2015, 07:13 PM - Edit history (1)

In Game Five in Los Angeles, in his last at bat, Reggie Jackson hit a home run on the first pitch he saw. When the Series returned to New York (from LA) for Game Six Jackson walked in his first at bat on four pitches. In his next 3 at bats he hit a home run on the first pitch he saw. To recap, Jackson hit four consecutive home runs on four swings of the bat against 4 different pitchers in the World Series.

I watched all of those games.
Reggie was at his peak, and that has to be a record, which will be very difficult to beat.

...in baseball. I remember it well. We were watching it on TV and you could feel the electricity all the way from New York City. By the time Reggie came to bat for the third time, it was like being part of some grand mystical event.

Had to go find it for another buzz....

It was him and Jackson. Lasorda was still mad about the play where the ball hits Jackson in the leg. There was some tension in the interview, and it looked like Lasorda wanted to choke Jackson.

...I saw them several times that year. I remember being on leave, wearing my Cracker Jacks, and this man says to me "Do you know where you're sitting?" I guessed right field nose bleed. He said "This section is called Jackson Heights because this where his foul tips come. Good times.
