Related: About this forum6 games left for the Cards.
All of them against the 2 teams ahead of 'em in the Central.
It's tight, but they have a spot in the wildcard right now, and an extremely unlikely shot at over taking the Cubs for the Division.
Considering where we were before the All Star Break, I can't bitch but man, this chase is making my head hurt.
It feels like we've already been in the playoffs since last week - like every series is a 3 game elimination.
Brewers series starts tonight and if we survive that, 3 in Chicago against the ENEMY over the weekend.
Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking

(13,425 posts)I always say I enjoy the chase.
That the Pennant Drive is the point - the measure of a successful season, but it's nerve racking

(21,830 posts)Of Chicago. But now I live in Colorado so I find the Rockies likable enough.

(13,425 posts)I grew up in the tri-state area about 14 miles from Wheeling WV
But the Air Force set me down in SW IL and I retired here.
In the 20 years I've been here, the Cardinals continuously put contenders on the field, let me and my family in for free (All military and family on non sellout games are admitted free) and the entire region pulls for them.
Meanwhile the Pirates were being run into the dirt - more of a cattle ranch or money laundering operation than a Baseball team and the whole region ignored them...
So after 5 or 6 years I switched.
I'm happy that the Pirates are a legit franchise now.
I'm happy for my cousins and friends in the area that still care about Baseball, all 8 of them

(664 posts)I'm a Royals fan and we seem to have waited 29 LONG years between post season appearances.
BREWERS haven't been in post season for a long time - I'm rooting for the Beermakers!

(13,425 posts)We had a bunch of injuries , but StL managed to avoid losing our biggest pieces or replaced them with youngsters who produced...
On the other hand it seems like the Giants were all either on the DL or suddenly old and over the hill, and many of your youngsters weren't ready.
I still liked beating you guys - Mad Bum destroying us in 14 years ago still hurts me - But I can't comfortably say that SF is done. They've built too many contenders for too many years for me to feel confident that they will stay down

(37,797 posts)player who started the season with them. Not one. It was like watching the Sacramento River Cats (Giants triple A team) playing with a couple of double A players thrown in; it wasn't pretty.

(37,797 posts)And next year doesn't look all that promising:
It's looking like the soul of the team, Hunter Pence, will be traded down the road.
Pablo Sandavol, Bochy's pet project, was showing remarkable comeback prospects until his season ending injury.
Buster Posey, with his season-ending hip surgery will be iffy early in the season.
Same can be said for Branden Belt's season-ending knee surgery.
Johnny Cueto's Tommy John, well, that a year and a half right there.
Smart money says Bochy will be kicking the can down the road and spend next year rebuilding. That is, if Bochy is still around.

It was like a gift to make NL MVP.
Beermakers lucky number is now 1 for WC, but I reckon they are looking for Div champs.
I don't know what's wrong with the Cubs.

(13,425 posts)WTF was that about? Yelich's OPS for September is almost 1.300.
I felt the same way I did when Tony kept pitching to big Papi in the WS.
That feeling was my internal voice screaming "WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?" over and over
