He wound up with a .390 batting average.
Almost became the first player since Ted Williams hit
.406 in 1941 to bat .400 or over.
I was living in the Dallas area and the Royals were so far ahead in the American League West that the Dallas papers just had BRETT and his BA instead of the West stats.
I was really pulling for him to do it. I don't see anyone ever getting as close as he did, much less hit .400.
