SF Giants' front office should be tarred and feathered after letting Hunter Pence get away

Today, Hunter Pence's 8th inning pinch-hit grand slam tied the game and sparked a 9th inning Rangers rally to win the game. He's on fire, batting .344 with a whopping 1.067 OPS, Baby!

Hunter Pence’s early success with Rangers should leave Giants with a few questions

The Giants are happy to see Pence succeeding with the Texas Rangers

DENVER — When Hunter Pence took the field for the final time in San Francisco last year, there was a feeling among the Giants faithful that Pence may have played his last major league game.

In the last season of a five-year, $90 million deal he signed at the end of the 2013 season, Pence hit just .226 and was limited to four home runs in 97 games.

After overhauling his swing with a private instructor and attempting to prove he had more gas in the tank during a winter ball stint, Pence signed a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers during the first week of February.

Since winning an Opening Day roster spot, Pence hasn’t stopped producing.

The veteran outfielder and designated hitter launched his fifth home run of the season Wednesday and owns a 1.067 OPS in 22 games. His comeback story has caught the attention of the Giants, who are thrilled for their old friend’s early success.

“You’re talking about a hungry player,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “There’s a man who played winter ball and tried to fix his swing and get it right. He’s got a way of figuring it out.”

Pence’s resurgence with the Rangers is one of the best feel-good stories of the year so far, but it should also leave the Giants asking a few questions.

(damn, it rhymes)

Giants could have certainly offered him the same minor league deal. But I don't think they liked the idea of him playing right field anymore -- not in PacBell Park. Guess the DH is working for him in the AL.

Sure does look like a mistake though.

It's Duggar and Williamson for now.
