SAN DIEGO -- For a brief, rare moment, Ken "Hawk" Harrelson was speechless.
That moment took place Wednesday morning when the iconic White Sox broadcaster received a call from Tim Mead, president of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, to announce his selection as the 2020 recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award. The honor is presented annually for excellence in broadcasting by the Hall of Fame.
"Oh, wow," said Harrelson upon receiving the call. "I really appreciate it, but I also, I don't know, I've never felt like this. I don't know what to say except thank you."
Harrelson will be recognized during the Hall of Fame Awards Presentation on Saturday, July 25, as part of Hall of Fame Weekend 2020. Harrelson becomes the 44th winner of the Frick Award, as he earned the highest point total in a vote conducted by the Hall of Fame's 15-member Frick Award Committee.

This guy was TERRIBLE ... and EMBARRASSING. Naming Harrelson (along with Costas) is an insult to guys like Allen, Hodges, Simmons, Scully, King, Miller ...
It's like ANYONE can get in.

(7,962 posts)Awful hack, the kind of homerism you would expect from a small town radio station sidekick covering his kids games.

(63,177 posts)We started getting White Sox games and one of my first impressions was just how bad Harrelson was. Last time I heard him which was probably ten years back or so, he was still really bad.
