The Astros, led by Manager Dusty Baker, beat the Red Sox in the ALCS, taking Game 6, 5-0, on Friday night in Houston. The Astros remain baseballs villains haunted by a sign-stealing scandal that tainted the franchise, its recent success and the reputations of some players.
Houston will face either the Atlanta Braves or the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series, which begins Tuesday.
This is a developing story and will be updated.

(9,666 posts)After Game 3, when Boston demolished the Astros, I thought it was over. But you just never know.

(9,666 posts)Other teams have similarly cheated. Houston got caught. But that's in the past. Houston "cheating" didn't shut down the Red Sox bats..

(9,666 posts)I thought Oakland might overtake Houston towards the end of the season. Say, what happened to Khris Davis? Was it a wrist injury?

(33,643 posts)So many good teams to get through down the stretch.
Not sure about Davis ... I don't actually follow MLB that closely, I'll watch games occasionally during the season and I check the standings but the day-to-day stuff with personnel and injuries I don't bother much with. If the A's make the playoffs though, then I take great interest

(9,666 posts)I am practically the quintessential fickle fan. If the Astros are winning, I will watch. But if they are on a losing streak, I don't pay any attention. Hell, even in the middle of a game, if the Astros fall behind, I will quit watching. Games 2 & 3 with Boston, when they hit all those grand slams, was unwatchable.
It would be sweet to unseat the Dodgers as WS Champs, but the series might be more interesting vs Atlanta.

(4,278 posts)The disingenuousness and hypocrisy are astounding.
And the Sox and Yankees also got caught but they get a pass for some reason.
Alex Cora was a coach with Houston when the cheating was happening, then moved to Boston, and I think all the punishment he got was a temporary suspension by Boston. Then they brought him back as head coach.
Maybe someday we will learn all of the details.
