(14,238 posts)Ted Williams, who was not known as a base stealer, only had 24 career steals (and was caught 17 times).
Two came in his rookie year of 1939, then he had some throughout the 40's (when he missed three years in the military) and 50's, and he played his last year in 1960. There is some speculation that the opposing team did not make a full effort to throw him out when he stole his one base that year.

(13,247 posts)Williams was the first to do it. There have been 3 others: Henderson, Omar Vizquel, and Tim Raines.
I've always asked the Williams question as who was the first to do it.
Best baseball to you.
Another good question. Who is the only switch hitter in history to hit .300 from both sides of the plate. Only one player ever did it.
Chipper Jones.

My kids looked at me like I was crazy when I told them this story.

(11,434 posts)I guessed Frank Thomas and Paul Konerko. Had I been thinking, I would have gone with Ruth and Gehrig. Totally forgot about Eddie Matthews.

Unlikely the Aaron/Mathews record will ever be broken let alone threatened with free agency.
