Hunter Pence, Jake Peavy joining MLB Network as full-time analysts

MLB Network is adding former players Hunter Pence and Jake Peavy as full-time on-air analysts, it announced Wednesday. Both appeared on MLB Network studio shows during the 2021 season.

Pence and Peavy became teammates in 2014 when the Giants acquired Peavy from the Red Sox in a midseason trade. The Giants went on to win the World Series that season, their third championship in five years.

Pence was a four-time All-Star during his 14-year playing career, which he finished with 244 home runs, 120 stolen bases and a 116 OPS+. He retired in 2020.

Though Pence was a valuable outfielder for the bulk of his career, he also quickly became known for his positive and quirky personality after joining the Giants in 2012. During his time in San Francisco, he was celebrated for his unorthodox hitting and throwing mechanics, regularly riding his custom-made scooter to home games, and his advocacy for a diet rich in kale and coffee.

Pence also co-hosted a podcast for The Athletic last season and appeared occasionally on NBC Sports Bay Area in 2021 as a studio and color analyst.
