With Brandon Belt out, Giants' depth issues show in 3-2 loss
Miami --
The Giants will play their 100th game of the season in Philadelphia on Monday, counting the suspended affair from Colorado that needs to be finished. Conclusions can and should be drawn.
Brandon Belt is not going to have the breakout season he and the team wanted, mostly because of injury. Eleven games into his comeback from a two-month absence after a broken thumb, Belt will return to the disabled list with a concussion caused by a freak accident.
Also, the Giants must bolster their bench if they hope to make a serious stretch run. With Belt unavailable, Brandon Crawford getting the day off and Hector Sanchez catching Tim Lincecum as usual, the bottom of the lineup offered little to scare starter Brad Hand in a 3-2 Marlins victory Sunday that ended the Giants' win streak at three.
Sanchez, Joaquin Arias and Gregor Blanco, the six through eight hitters, went hitless in 10 at-bats, unable even to advance Michael Morse after his leadoff double in the second inning.
