Posey extends game in 9th, Crawford lifts Giants in 14th
Philadelphia -- Shawon Dunston strolled past Tim Lincecum toward the shower in the wee hours Wednesday and shouted, "Way to go, Eck." The Giants' closer for a night smiled and replied, "Without the mustache."
Dennis Eckersley would have been proud of Lincecum after the Giants' longest game of the year, a 14-inning, 9-6 victory against the Phillies. The Freak, his upper lip free of the mustache he has attempted to grow all year, got the final two outs for his first career save.
Good thing for the Giants that he did. Had the Phillies tied a game that lasted 5 hours, 46 minutes, Tyler Colvin would have been next to take the mound.
"I talked to Colvin," manager Bruce Bochy said. "I asked if he pitched before. He said in high school."
Every season brings nutty games like this, which lasted as long as it did because Buster Posey tied it 5-5 in the ninth with the first homer allowed this season by closer Jonathan Papelbon.
