Another day, another downer for Giants
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For two months plus one week, the Giants were fantastic. In the past two months, they have been dreadful.
Seven weeks remain. Who will the Giants be? Can they return to the heady days of that June sweep against the Mets that put them 21 games over .500? Or will they be unable to shift gears and remain the sad sacks who were swept over the weekend in Kansas City, falling to six games over .500 for the first time since April 30?
In ending a 4-6 trip by dropping five of six to the playoff-caliber Brewers and Royals, including Sunday's 7-4 defeat at Kauffman Stadium, the Giants offered no signs of an impending turnaround. They faced good pitching and got nowhere, except further behind in the National League West.
They now trail first-place Los Angeles by a season-high 4 1/2 games.
Manager Bruce Bochy sees a model in the team that owned the Giants over the weekend. The Royals underperformed for nearly 100 games and stood 48-50 on July 21.
