Giants get 1st series win at AT&T Park in more than month
The Giants begged their fans to have faith that they will escape their nosedive and challenge the Dodgers for the division. The fans rightfully responded by demanding the team show them something - anything - to warrant that faith.
The Giants provided a small down payment over the weekend by getting their first series win at AT&T Park in more than a month and winning consecutive home games for the first time in more than two months.
"If you told me that, I wouldn't have believed you," Tim Lincecum said after the Giants built on Saturday's big comeback win and beat the Phillies 5-2 Sunday. "We're in the dog days right now. We're looking to turn it around and use this as a positive lift."
So it goes for the 2014 Giants that each positive seems inextricably linked to a negative.
On Sunday, it was hot-hitting rookie Joe Panik dislocating the pinkie on his left hand sliding into second base during a two-run eighth inning. Panik had singled to raise his average to .282 and bolted for second when right fielder Marlon Byrd overthrew his cutoff man.
