the field of dreams game

cubs vs reds. i don't follow either team but it was a great game.

the cute moments were good. furg jenkins first pitch to johnny bench. the griffy's playing catch. the hologram of harry carey at the 7th inning stretch. all very nostalgic.

but they missed a trick. the movie, if i remember right, focused on shoeless joe jackson of the black sox scandal. this might have been a good moment, when the retired reds came out of the cornfield, for pete rose to be with them, enough is enough. he was a great player and it is about time.

Jackson was a one off at a time when players, especially on the White Sox, were not compensated fairly. Rose bet on games he played in, coached in (and no betting on his own team doesn't make it ok for numerous reasons) despite the fact he not only knew it was wrong, but flagrantly violated baseball's most sacred rule for years. He is an unrepentant thug who used the Charley Hustle bullshit ( a moniker bestowed by Whitey Ford and Mickey Mantle as a putdown) to enhance his value to fans. A miserable human being all around, but hey trumpers and dump love him. Why do you?
