I've seen a lot of pennant winners in person

Quite a few teams I’ve seen in a given season have gone on to make the World Series or win it.

2006: Cardinals at White Sox, Redbirds win the World Series.

2012: Tigers at Cubs, the Tigers win their most recent pennant.

2013: Cardinals at Cubs, St. Louis wins its most recent pennant.

2014: Royals at White Sox, Royals win their first of two straight, with the big prize the next year.

2016: Pirates at Cubs - Finally.

2019: Astros at Rangers - Houston wins its second pennant in three years.

And now, 2022: Nationals at Phillies, and Philadelphia makes an improbable run, like the Phold of 1964 in reverse.

It’s nuts.

That 9th inning was a real nail bitter. Great game.

Edit for typo.

I remember that World Series, the final out from Brad Lidge, of course, but also the home run from Joe Blanton.

Phils were ahead after five innings and the bottom dropped out. Deluge. And nobody wanted to award the World Series on the basis of a five inning game. So they had to delay until two days later when it finally stopped raining. The Phillies went ahead to win and it was actually better for me because it is hell to shoot sports in the rain, and I had a much earlier victory to make deadline with

I remember that and the rain delay issue. What was your deadline, do you remember? Those things are always tough, speaking from first hand experience.

But we usually have to hustle to get the pictures in sometime around 11 or midnight. It was when I first used a laptop to transmit pictures from the dugout. Sure could’ve used one of these smart phones

I got a great shot of Ruiz sliding into home plate for the winner and the dugout erupting in the background. Of course we had to run that pile-up on the pitchers mound after the Series won very large in the paper. As I recall Jimmy Rollins injured his leg and missed some games in the next season doing that
