I don't feel sorry for the NFL, the team owners, even the fans. The whole thing has become such an excessive display of excessively overblown excess that I can't work up any sympathy for fans who choose to blow a big wad to be there in person.

(13,861 posts)My sneaky question is Will the Raiders players have to pay to watch their two worst enemies play IN THEIR OWN STADIUM?
Not that it really matters.
I believe that the 49ers Santa Clara stadium and the SF Giants field were privately paid for.

(6,050 posts)How is it that taxpayers pay for stadiums and games are played outside of the USA. Professional sports claims they bring jobs to local communities, but I have yet to see a local working when the game is played in England or Germany.

(727 posts)This city spent $250 million taxpayer funds to renovate/update The K (home of the KC Royals) in 2012 and $375 million in 2010 to renovate/update Arrowhead Stadium (home of the Chiefs)...
And now 12 and 14 years down the road, all of a sudden these stadiums are DUMPS and need to be rebuilt from scratch on the taxpayer dime? I don't think so!
I love the Chiefs and the Royals and I hope both teams stay in Kansas City for a very long time but considering that the football team is a revenue-sharing business that earns billions a year for its owner from television revenues for its owners before selling a single ticket, I'm not for spending billions of taxpayer $ to subsidize billionaires who earn billions every year...
I will be voting against any tax increase for building new stadiums but I expect a tax levy for new stadiums to pass resoundingly regardless...
