(3,163 posts)I'm not only an LSU fan, I'm also a Georgia fan, so Tebow has been on my hate list for quite a few years. I also have a considerable disdain for flashy and overt public displays of religiousity.
That being said, I've actually come to kind of like Tebow. He's rather personable, is not really egotisticand, is cheerful under pretty much any circumstances, and seems to have a true team orientation. If you watch him play, he can't throw passes worth a dam, but he's a pretty good athlete. I think he'd make a good receiver, and if a coach put him there I think he'd do it.
I can't say he doesn't deserve all the shit that is thrown at him but he comes across, I think, as a pretty decent guy.

(116,812 posts)He runs a 4.71 40 yard dash so his speed is considered below average and almost poor by NFL standards. That means the most likely position would be at tight end and then his blocking ability comes into question. At the age of 26, he is most likely at the beginning of the middle third of his career so it's difficult to pick up the techniques involved in blocking and then the final part is ability to run routes--I'd like to give him some credit there since he is intelligent and knows where he needs to be due to his experience at QB, but once again those skills are unproven.
Hopefully, he was wise and banked some of the salary during his time in the NFL. However, with the present state of affairs I don't expect him to be around in another five years no matter what position he plays.

(3,163 posts)but the time to run the 40-yard sprint is one of the most overrated stats in sports. I think Boyd Dowler ran it in 5-something.

(46 posts)he could be decent. Not Brett Farve or Peyton Manning good, but he could be a decent QB if he got some good practice and experience. Look at what he has been through in his short NFL career, dropped by two teams, one of which flat out refused to do anything with him after picking him up. He needs some confidence and to know that a team has his back and not just using him as a novelty. That being said, he isn't getting any younger, and he will have to really work at it to get better, but the potential is there.

(7,419 posts)Sorry, but the coach that can make Tebow an average QB in the NFL does not live. He has no potential, no gift, no natural ability at being a QB. Good attitude, great teammate and all that but in no shape, form or dimension is, could, would, might be an NFL QB. Denver tried. NE tried. The Jets kind of tried. He started almost all of 2 seasons with Denver and actually won some games but not by being a QB although he allegedly was assigned that position. So he DID get experience and coaching and hasn't learned squat. I'd take Matt Cassel (shudder) over Tebow.

(32,100 posts)D*mn.......I thought for sure he'd be gone with the first cut. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/patriots/2013/08/27/tim-tebow-survives-75-roster-cut/2709393/

(871 posts)that Tebow is going to be given time to show his stuff in the last exhibition game. He's had time to learn the plays, and alot of repetitions in practice. Sooooo, now it is
Tebow Time
or he'll be gone.

(1,096 posts)Patriots fan here,
I had not understood why the Patriots had signed Tebow until my son suggested to me, that they signed him to help the defense prepare to defend against the "read option offense" which many teams are using effectively in recent years.
Beyond that I don't see much value in keeping him around, especially when it comes to cutting a valuable backup at another position such as Lagarette Blount, or an O-line backup.

(7,419 posts)I would not have been surprised to see NE keep him for the practice squad for just that reason but apparently he wasn't good enough for that either.
