"Democrats like the Packers better than the Cowboys, 44-26. Republicans really like the Packers better: 60-29. And independents like the Packers better, too: 44-30."
Survey says: Packers are America's Team.
A recently completed national survey says what most Green Bay Packers fans have been saying for years: the Packers are America's Team.
The survey, conducted between Dec. 16 and 18, found that 22% said the Packers were their favorite team in the National Football League.
A total of 11% said the Dallas Cowboys were their favorite team, followed by 8% for the Chicago Bears, the New York Giants, and Pittsburgh Steelers.
A total of 7% said their favorite team was the New Orleans Saints, 6% for the New England Patriots, 4% for the Washington Redskins, and 2% for the New York Jets.
The survey question gave respondents a choice of nine teams. A total of 24% of those surveyed said their favorite NFL team was either some other team not in the question or they weren't sure.
According to the survey by Public Policy Polling, the Packers were seen positively by 57% of voters in the country compared with only 13% who have a negative opinion. According to the survey takers, every subgroup that was looked at - ideology, gender, party, race and age - had a strong favorable opinion of the Packers.
The Cowboys, often viewed as America's Team, were viewed more negatively. A total of 41% of those surveyed had a negative opinion of the Cowboys.
The poll also asked a straight up question: Which team do you like better, the Packers or the Cowboys. The Packers came out ahead, 49-28.
Democrats like the Packers better than the Cowboys, 44-26. Republicans really like the Packers better: 60-29. And independents like the Packers better, too: 44-30.

(51,907 posts)--they don't have professional cheerleaders. High school squads from around the state take turns. Also, the fan-owners clear snow off the field themselves when necessary. Now that is a community team for sure.

(17,493 posts)Home or away there are plenty of Terrible Towels in the stadium. The original owner of the Steelers Art Rooney never wanted the Steelers to be America's team. "'We didn't want that,' Rooney said. 'We're Pittsburgh's team. We feel strongly about that.'" (ref: America's Team http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America%27s_Team)
The Cowboy's do have better looking cheerleaders than either the Steelers or the Packers.

(54 posts)I'm a bit surprised at the heavy Republican preference for the Packers over the Cowboys. You would have thought that the Cowboys, being a Southern team, and there being such a strong Republican presence in the South, would have resulted in considerable Republican support for the Cowboys. Maybe my reasoning is faulty.
