Related: About this forumHow XFL rules will differ from NFL
The rules for startup league, which will kick off next month, will include several departures from how the game is played in the NFL. Among the most significant changes is a shootout-style overtime procedure, with teams getting up to five one-play possessions from the 5-yard line worth two points each. The teams will alternate plays until one team is mathematically eliminated.
Here are some of the other notable rules the XFL is revealing Tuesday, many of which had previously been floated by Luck or otherwise rumored.
A 9-point touchdown?
Yes, this will officially be a thing in the XFL. The league is eliminating the traditional extra point and replacing it with a three-tiered PAT system:
A successful offensive play from the 2-yard line, worth 1 point
A play from the 5-yard line, worth 2 points
A play from the 10-yard line, worth 3 points
Other notable changes
A 25-second play clock, as opposed to the 40-second clock in the NFL
A designated ball-spotter, in an effort to speed up the pace of play
Requiring just one foot in bounds to complete a catch, as opposed to two in the NFL
A running clock, except in the final two minutes of each half

(9,629 posts)I actually watched it back during the first attempt back around 2000. But I really liked football back then.
But now, they are just pandering to RW nutjobs upset about Colin Kaepernick.

Curt Menefee (host of Fox NFL Sunday) and Joel Klatt will serve as Fox's lead XFL broadcast team. ESPN and ABC's top team will feature Steve Levy, Greg McElroy, Tom Luginbill, and Dianna Russini, and their second team will be Tom Hart, Joey Galloway, and Pat McAfee.
The league commissioner announced the eight host cities and stadiums for the first franchises on December 5, 2018, and also announced the starting date of February 8, 2020, the weekend after Super Bowl LIV. Its first head coach and general manager, Dallas's Bob Stoops, was announced February 7, 2019, with the coaches for Seattle (Jim Zorn), Washington (Pep Hamilton), and Tampa Bay (Marc Trestman) following later in the month. (9,629 posts)It's says they will not allow "political" gestures during games, like kneeling. I would argue that standing for the flag with heart covered is a political gesture, but I guess some are allowable.
This was the impetus for the new league- I remember McMahon and some of the others saying they were thinking of reviving the XFL after the kneeling protests.
