Fuck you florio...

Define hitting illegally but not hurting? Sounds like the bounty fiasco the saints got into...

------

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ 27-yard touchdown run in the AFC Championship Game has been the biggest highlight in this year’s NFL playoffs.

Mahomes deftly avoided stepping out of bounds, then powered through two Titans players near the end zone.

On Wednesday night, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio was talking with NBC sports colleague Peter King and said the 49ers should get physical with Mahomes in Super Bowl LIV to avoid such runs. Even if that meant a hit would result in a penalty.

“I want to be careful here because I’m not suggesting that they try to knock him out of the game, that’s not what I’m saying, but at a certain point you trade the risk of 15 yards if you can send a message. And football is still a physical, violent game,” Florio said.

It's dangerous for QBs to run as a rule. Today's D players are just so big and fast. nt Blue_true Jan 2020 #10

just hit him if he is near the sideline. I think that it is dangerous for QBs to not slide when defensive players expect them to. The Eagles QB has a habit of not sliding when defenders expected him to, it worked to get him some good gains, but eventually defenders starting hitting him if he was not clearly sliding. Cam Newton can likely blame his injury issues on his habit of taking on defenders downfield. Defensive backs lose their jobs by allowing offensive players to run past them regularly, so them hitting out of fear of losing their jobs become the norm.

Mahomes is a wonderful passer and he has good weapons downfield, KC should focus on using that interspersed with runs by runningbacks.

If he is near the sideline a QB is likely running out of bounds.

he continued to run on the field of play. He should not try that again because my belief is that he is going to get hit hard, which I don't want to see, QBs are valuable parts of teams.

The Titans did hit him but he still scored a touchdown. I remember Elway scored a helicopter touchdown and the announcers went on about his will to win.

Players get hurt at different positions besides QB and a QB can get hurt being too slow to evade a sack.

Sackers toss QBs around now (remember Rodger's injury). With more and more athletic QBs coming into the league, the "in the grasp" rules will need to be changed. I believe that it is a bad idea for QBs to wiggle out of the grasp and run away, defenders resort to slamming them to the ground.

I think that we live in a too macho society. Why can't flag football be ok at the highest level?

But good old boy Goddell won't take any action. We all remember those stories of Bounty hunters . Have a neighbor who was a victim of a cheap shot, and the surgeries he has endured through the years as a result.

He is among leaders in tv ratings where the money comes in. They are learning to protect even the non white quarterbacks. Officials will call enough penalties against teams who go after Mahomes to prevent much contact. They have done it for Brady, and several others for years. Not only that, but for a ring Mahomes would be willing to take a few hits before having the entire off season to heal. Want to see targeting ejection rules like in college? Target Mahomes. The NFL has a very difficult time making oodles of money with star quarterbacks on the sidelines.
