Bad play calling by the Cowboys late in the 4th quarter

Week 3, Dallas at Seattle.

Three deep incomplete sideline passes that each stopped the clock, leaving plenty of time for Seattle to score a winning TD on its following possession. I think Seahawks had close to five minutes to play with, took only about three to score. They converted the two point attempt for a seven point lead as well.

Dallas should have called ball-control offense and run more time off the clock. Might have won the game.

clock. If they got a third and long, they should have felt they could make it, especially with Prescott looking to take off.

On the other side, D. K. Metcalf gave Dallas a touchback rather than scoring a touchdown.

Dallas did well to get the score they needed to go ahead. They couldn't get too cute with the clock; there's no guarantee they move down the field score with conservative clock-eating play calls. The Dallas go-ahead FG happened with 3:59 left; Seattle scored with 1:47 remaining and two timeouts in hand. Three running plays' worth of clock burn would still have given Seattle the ball back with enough time to do something. If Seattle had vaguely similar offensive success in your scenario, they still likely would at least have had a shot to kick a game-winning FG as time expires, if not the TD they actually scored.

a hurry-up scenario could have forced Wilson into mistakes. Cowboys made it easy for them. If I was Jones I'd be pissed there wasn't a greater effort run down the clock.
