Related: About this forumSo Aaron Rodgers wants General Manager Brian Gutekunst fired.
This seems to be his primary beef with the Green Bay Packers.
Tell me, does this ever happen? Do GMs get fired because a star player refuses to work for them?
The Packers did get rid of Mike McCarthy a couple years ago and got a better coach.
Just wondering if it is possible that the Packers could actually do this.

(16,283 posts)In that case you only need to convince the one person. I don't know enough about how the Packers executives are hired and fired to know if it is more complicated there or not.
I think it is definitely possible that in general a team could pick their veteran, MVP QB over their GM... Not sure if the Packers will in this specific case even aside from the point above.

(11,436 posts)Jordan (along with Phil Jackson and Scottie Pippen) absolutely HATED the GM at the time (Jerry Krause). Krause basically escorted Jackson and Pippen out of town, even though Jordan kept threatening that he wasn't coming back without those two. When they left, Jordan retired again even though he wasn't ready to retire for good, hence his comeback with the Wizards three years later.

(17,863 posts)Jerry Krause was pretty obnoxious.
Rodgers wants another Super Bowl ring. I really don't think he wants to retire yet.
Its not surprising that he's throwing his weight around, but the grass isn't necessarily greener just because its somewhere else.

(14,664 posts)Wouldn't that break his contract? Can he do that? What would it cost the team and what would it cost him...

(7,349 posts)After all is said and done, the GB Packers organization is still a business. Although I may not be from Green Bay, I did grow up 2 hours away and have plenty of family who have been season ticket holders for decades. Ive been watching the Pack for 65 years, have been to countless games at Lambeau, met Bart Starr at my younger cousins funeral (she died when she was 13). Bart was great friends with my uncle and the families attended the same church in Allouez. My uncles family helped the Starr family cope when they lost their son, Bret, to suicide. My cousin, Erik, is personal friends with Mark Murphy. According to my cousin, this is all on Rodgers. The organization is trying to work with him, and are not obligated to ask his permission before drafting a future replacement, but Hollywood wants out. Go to Denver....go anywhere....just go!

(7,349 posts)Aaron negotiated and agreed to a contract in good faith, now he is renigging. He has become a poison in the Packer organization and is bad for team moral. I say he plays per his contract or goes. Who is running the Packer organization Aaron Rodgers or Mark Murphy?

(17,863 posts)The Packers will not trade him.
He will not play for the Packers.
Its rough having "philosophical problems". You cut off all your options.
He's going to walk away from football and become the host of Jeopardy.
