(9,200 posts)Only a little conflicted as I was born and lived in Ohio until I was 10. Then again, I'm an Oregon alum ('74). Not a difficult choice in a college game. GO DUCKS!

(1,048 posts)I.e. dont believe the preseason talking heads hype, blather and polls. It is early in the season - they can redeem themselves. My guess practices will be a little tough this week.

(57,677 posts)The Bucks have been known to lose an early game, and still do a great job for the rest of the season.

(15,043 posts)Oregon was 0-9 against tOSU until today, and they were favored to win in several of those prior games too.
As soon as I saw many Buckeyes fans loudly cheering "USA! USA! USA!", whenever the media commentators mentioned 9/11 during the pregame at all, I felt like they DESERVED to lose today. (And they're the college team that I normally cheer to win, being local to me.)
I hope all of the dummies infected at that packed stadium will think it was worth it!
Good game by the Ducks!

(57,677 posts)What were they yelling about then????
I know, I noticed no one wearing masks, just like all the other colleges.
These kids think they will live forever.

(15,043 posts)That's how I see it.
That's the kind of shallow stuff that Republicans do. So it reminded me that most of the fans there were probably GOP voters.

(57,677 posts)OK it is not like Antioch in Yellow Springs liberal.
Yes there are conservatives on campus, but very diverse groups all co-exist.
My daughter has spent the past 7 yrs living and going to school on the OSU campus and I have spent a lot of time there as well, past and present.
Game day Saturdays are crazy on the OSU campus. They always have been.
The kids are high spirited and exuberant, and they like to shout out stuff and prank around.
A couple of years ago before Covid, I personally never heard the kids shouting out any political crap.

(15,043 posts)Several guys in that crowd looked older than typical college students.
And the online forums devoted to that football team are chock-full of right-wing jerks too. So I try to avoid those too now, rather than seeing posts about the pandemic being a hoax or misinformation that it has a "99.99% survival rate".
The students are probably wonderful in comparison, in general, but they're certainly not the only Buckeyes football team fans out there.

(57,677 posts)I lived just off campus a couple of years ago, and in general the students were well behaved and polite.
I then moved to the suburbs and there were a lot more jackasses living there than on campus.
Yes if you look at general publicfoot ball fans, it is Ohio and there are a lot of Magats in the state.

(15,043 posts)The Alabama fans that I met in the French Quarter of New Orleans, prior to the 2015 Sugar Bowl, talked and behaved in an advanced manner. I later surmised that almost all of them were probably graduates of that school, although that was only previously confirmed in a couple cases from the various conversations.
The Alabama fans around me in the inexpensive "nose bleed" section of the Superdome, on the other hand, reminded me more of the "bubbas" that I had expected.
They seemed more like the callers into the Finebaum radio show.

(57,677 posts)Yes I think there is a big difference between the general public and the college students.
College kids live in tight quarters with kids from all over the world, and from many diverse social groups.
They learn to make nice with each other, and in fact come to like the diversity.
Ohio State is a huge campus, probably close to 100,000 including students, faculty and employees, volunteers, etc.
You have to learn to get along with folks different from yourself.
One of my neighbors was a big Magat bubba type, hated liberals, gays, you name it.
His oldest son was the same, but he went off to the Ohio State main campus and came back a changed kid.
He defended LGBTs and even got into a fist fight with his dad over it. It was the talk of the neighborhood.
I liked that kid ever since.
Cool you went to the sugar bowl that year.

(2,482 posts)they wanted at will. The Bucks did not play D against Minny either. Unless they get their shit together they are gonna have to win games via shootout; which you cannot count on every week.
