The Indianapolis Colts placed quarterback Carson Wentz on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, the team announced.
Wentz, who is unvaccinated, could miss the Colts' Week 17 game against the Las Vegas Raiders if he tested positive for COVID-19. He would be out for five days if he is a close contact, which means he still could play, according to NFL protocol.
If Wentz doesn't clear protocol, Colts second-string quarterback Sam Ehlinger is expected to start Sunday in Indianapolis. The Colts won their Week 16 contest against the Arizona Cardinals despite more than a dozen players on the reserve/COVID-19 list being absent.
A total of 106 NFL players went on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday,
pushing the total to 521 players in December.
The Colts (9-6) host the Raiders (8-7) at 1 p.m. EST Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

(24,577 posts)At least he's been honest about his vaccine status, unlike Aaron 'Immunized' Rogers

(2,997 posts)Ask any Eagles fan who he really is. And zero points for not lying about vax status. If he had quarantined himself for the last two years, then a couple of points.

(16,283 posts)which not accidentally coincides with so many players testing positive that games were in danger of being canceled... Just as the end of the season and playoffs were arriving. The worst time of year for a schedule disruption, money-wise.
"Red alert! Red alert! Revenue is in danger!!! All hands on deck! We need ideas for how to bamboozle the public into thinking we're not sociopathic moneygrubbers!"
So they went full TFG and decided the problem was too much testing. So they minimized testing. That helped, but not enough. Still too many positives...
Fortunately for their pocketbooks, the CDC bailed them out by changing some of their official recommendations. So the NFL grabbed that little fig leaf and ran with it.
Now players can return 5 days after testing positive as long as they don't have a fever and self-report no symptoms. Y'all remember how self-reporting concussions went (still goes)?
It's. All. About. Not. Cancelling. Games.
