Is anyone else grossed out by the glowing farewell tributes to Ben Roethlisberger?

I couldn't even stomach the pregame for MNF, so I turned it off. The guy was known as being a monumental jerk to people for much of his career, much less the two credible rape allegations. I realize that he was one of the greater Steelers ever, but I'm now seeing stories recapping his career that don't even mention the sexual assaults. I get that he found Jesus and won two Super Bowls, but come on.

3. I missed the pregame show

He might be a jerk, but he had a magnificent career, although he embarrassed himself this year and should have retired last year or before.

Whatever accolades he gets from the commentators are deserved and are given whenever a player of his stature reaches the end of his career.

And I say this as an Oakland Raider fan who's hated the Steelers ever since they beat the Raiders in the 'Immaculate Reception" game. If there was instant replay in place for the refs back then, that play would have been overturned and the Raiders would have gone to the Super Bowl that year.

that was also 14 years ago. By any measure, he turned around his life from a young, wealthy, famous (and dick-ish) NFL football QB to a very charitable, decent family man and first round hall of famer.

5. During the game, the announcers mentioned his "mistakes"

as in "he grew up in Pittsburgh. Sure, he made some mistakes and the fans forgave him for them" as if that was a normal way to describe the rape allegations and whether the fans were the people to offer the forgiveness.
