49ers: reminded me a bit of the 2000 Ravens last night

The generalities:

Serviceable quarterback, good running game, stellar defense.

The specifics:

Behind Ray Lewis the Ravens fielded perhaps one of the best defenses of all times. S.F. isn't quite at that level but they're very deep at linebacker and strong on the line anchored by pass rushers Bosa and Armstead and tackle D.J. Jones (and complemented by very good rotational backups).

The running game works because Kyle Shanahan created one that's creative, varied and unpredictable. 49ers do not feature a RB like Jamal Lewis but who they do have -- sixth round pick RB Eli Mitchell, WR Deebo Samuel, and FB Kyle Juszczyk -- are adept at finding the holes and running behind the blocking of a good offensive line.

Like Trent Dilfer, Garoppolo has been playing just good enough recently to win games. He makes a throw when he has to. Serviceable. Lucky.

Anyone else reminded of the Ravens?

and it is really not even close. I would be truly shocked if they get past the Rams or Bucs. Deebo Samuel on the other hand is the man. He is a joy to watch. Mitchell is a pretty good find in the 6th round as well.

The Packers lost because their Special Teams completely melted down. They screwed up in almost every conceivable way for a Special Teams. Also Rodgers was off even more so than in the last two NFC championship games.

Yes, he's injured. Accuracy, velocity, distance are compromised. So don't throw into tight coverage. The starting right tackle is out. So call shorter pass plays that don't require five step drops. Throw the ball away if no one is open.

About Rodgers: QBs were off in the last three games the 49ers won (all playoff teams too): Stafford, Prescott, Rodgers. It's the defense. Two great players came off long injuries: cornerback Emmanuel Moseley and linebacker Dre Greenlaw.

That said, I agree, Packers should have won. Special teams melted like mild Wisconsin cheddar.

Garoppolo is a win-with qb. You can win with him if you have a great defense and special teams. It fits him perfectly.
