Super Bowl tickets are hard to come by as it is, and the prices to get into the stadium to watch the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams next weekend have come under scrutiny. Super Bowl LVI will be played at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., Feb. 13. The stadium is one of the newest and most technologically sound venues in the NFL. But whether fans are supporting their hometown team, traveling to root for the Bengals or just want to catch the biggest sporting event of the year, theyre going to have to pay a pretty penny.
According to TicketIQ data, the cheapest ticket available costs $5,300. If a fan wanted to sit comfortably in the lower levels of SoFi Stadium, he would have to shell out about $8,870. The high rollers will need more than $906,000 for a single ticket for a 24-person suite.
"Tickets for Super Bowl 56 are currently averaging at $9,086 on the secondary market, making it the fourth straight day that the average list price has been under the $10,000 mark," according to TicketIQs latest update Saturday.
"Traditionally, tickets on the secondary market have fallen to their lowest average asking price in the days immediately before the game and on game day. Overall, in the final week leading up to Super Bowl Sunday, the average list price has dropped 13%."

(20,364 posts)Where I don't have to run the risk of catching COVID, where I can make my own grub for a reasonable price, where I don't have to worry about some blockheads starting a fight in the stands, where I can use my own bathroom in peace anytime I like, where I can choose to listen to the commentary and enjoy the Super Bowl commercials or put all of it on mute, where I don't have to worry about parking and spending an hour or two getting in and out of the venue.
And where I can save thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars.
It's a clear-cut choice!!

(8,657 posts)I wouldn't expect that at the Superbowl. How would you like to be "that guy" taking the walk of shame getting thrown out after spending $8K on a ticket? FAIL

(20,364 posts)These days with the polarization of the left and right? With people drinking to excess? That's a bad combination and I wouldn't put it past even some wealthy folks to get out of hand.

(15,046 posts)There's NO WAY that I'd spend so much money to watch a football game at a stadium.
The last time that I actually went to an NFL game was early 2014 when the Bengals hosted the Chargers in a first-round playoff game.
The weather was terrible (cold with freezing rain), and I found a ticket from a secondary market with a seat close to the field (near the 50-yard line too) that was very inexpensive.
The Bengals were heavy favorites, but lost a playoff game yet again! Then it was a white-knuckle drive to return home.
There was a TV break every few plays! So I'd see the players just standing around on the field for what seemed like the majority of the game. (Probably not, but it seemed that way while sitting in the cold.)
EDIT: I bet that Bengals owner, Mike Brown, wouldn't even spend that much money on a ticket. He still drives an old Chevy Lumina, the last I heard.

(5,076 posts)and I remember how soul-crushing it was, especially since we led at halftime and then got outscored 20-0 in the second half. The Steeler losses were their own special kind of misery, and then we go and lose to Mark freakin' Sanchez to boot. Ugh. I also attended the Raider playoff game this year and bore witness to 31 years of futility coming to an end, which was a very special night.
Having said all that, I didn't for one second contemplate spending the equivalent of a new car purchase to fly across country and be shoe-horned into a nosebleed seat to watching uniformed ants run about the field. I'm sure the wife would have been calling a divorce lawyer if I did, and I couldn't blame her.
Ocho is right: the price for tickets is absolutely insane, and it prices the average fan completely out of an event. Watching on tv will have to suffice.
As for Mike driving a Lumina, is he just supposed to walk to Wendy's? He has coupons, man!

(22,730 posts)or maybe something we are bingeing together.
There will probably be warm beverage, and a cat or two involved, and I will most likely be working on a blanket I am making for a new mom.

(7 posts)I will be comfortably on my couch with a beer in hand. I'll save the 40 grand and watch two teams I'm only mildly interested in. Okay, it may be a couple beers.

(57,920 posts)I only watch college ball when my (alumni) team is playing.
But a friend of mine insists that the Super Bowl has become a national holiday of sorts.
So it is must watch TV. Which didn't sway me.
But then the friend upped the ante and informed me that many of my favorite college players will be playing at the Super Bowl. I love these guys, I really do want to see them play.
