Up here in the northeast we've had some nights dip into the 20's and I'm still riding.
Besides getting frozen toes on a 4 1/2 hour ride on Sunday night, I've been pretty comfortable in my gear.
I wear this: Firstgear Thermo One-Piece (I think they are discontinuing it)
With a pair of Powerlet RapidFire Heated Gloves, under a Pair of HD Gauntlets
An Arctiva Baklava under a Full-face helmet.
A Pair of Sturdy Vibram Hiking boots and some thick wool socks... Which I forgot on Sunday, when I got called out to work. Just left a pair of cotton socks on. Big mistake.
I have no fairing or windscreen, so whatever it is outside, I'm getting the brunt of it.

(1,263 posts)There's nothing funny about cold air blowing up one's sleeve in January or February.
Boots, even goulashes, to keep the air from blowing through canvas sneakers are good too. For long rides in really cold weather, an insulated suit is a must.
I, unfortunately, didn't learn the value of some of these items until I was well on my way from Hilton Head, SC to Nashville at Christmas in 1985. Riding through the Smokies the temperature didn't reach double digits for a couple of days. The night I spent in Waynesville, NC the temp dropped to -5 F. I had to roll my motorcycle into the hotel room to warm it up enough to start.
The best part of the ride was seeing the look on the faces of a family passing me on a snow and ice covered Interstate. Priceless!
When I commuted by motorcycle to work 45 miles each way, year around, I bought my first faring and added a piece of scrap rubber donated by the local Vulcan plant to the bottom of the shield to give me more upper leg protection.

(10,201 posts)and it is the best. Below is a pic I sent to my wife tonight before heading home from work.
Under my suit, besides the heated gloves was a simple short sleeve shirt and a pair of jeans. I was toasty warm. I once rode in temps in the mid 50's in that suit and was sweating my ass off.
