...The Men's World Cup, rather than "THE" World Cup, to give both these contests equal standing.

I cannot help but feel bad for teams that get blown out by such a huge goal margin.

You don't even see 13-0 scores in starters vs. non-starter scrimmages.

Generally, teams stop trying to score at around 8-0 against such weak opposition...like an unwritten mercy rule. It's really not "fantastic to watch" such disparity in talent. To each....

It's an interesting dilemma if you're a fan of the beautiful game...

At what point do you say enough?

The USA womens team is very, very good...but running up a 13 goal scoreline against Thailand?

I don't have an answer.

So there's some reason to run up the score (which should be limited by a rule that sets some kind of per-game cap on how many goals of victory margin "counts&quot .

The bigger issue is over-celebrating the late goals. I didn't watch but that's what critics are talking about. Once you're past about 5-0 there's no reason to get overly excited unless maybe it's someone's first-ever goal at this level. Otherwise act like you've scored goals before and are the #1 seed of the tournament - you're expected to dominate.

criticizing the US team for enjoying their victory, I am detecting some disturbing issues about the critics whose opinions are being brought here (not the DUers).

First, it is a team of strong women, enjoying their freedom to excel. This team is paid way less than their male counterparts who are not even close to being as skillful. How dare they enjoy being so good? These women are what the Feminist movement of the Seventies worked hard to achieve.

There were no female construction workers, female doctors were a rarity, and I know this because I was in charge of finding women in diverse jobs for a Feminist celebration. Good freaking luck to me! I found an old dyke who was a goatherder, and was pretty proud of that, actually.

Don't you think Iranian and Afghani women wish they could be in the position to celebrate like the US women did?

For some reason people are fixated on goal 9, they shouldn't have enjoyed goal 9-13. Then I figured out that goal 9 was made by Megan Rapinoe, who refused to sing the National Anthem for political reasons that she stated very clearly before the tournament. Also, that she won't be going to the Whitehouse after they win. Feels like nasty ratfucking under there somewhere.

No team in this tournament needs sympathy and gentle handling. They are the best teams in the world. They all came here to win because they are good and believe in themselves and their ability to win. You respect that by playing your best in every game.

Think very hard about throwing shit at this team, because it reminds me a lot of criticizing Dems when the focus should be Repubs.

Here's one of those mean old players mistreating her opponent:

The USWNT put in second stringers for most of the 2nd half - but there's only a limited number of substitutions a team can make.

It's not their fault that even the "second-stringers" of the USWNT could be starters on most other Women's World Cup rosters.
