Our first attempt fell through because the owners never got back to us, but the 2nd choice was a charm. We visited my in-laws in FL over xmas and were able to find a great rental with a pool in their development (only 1 street over from them) for $850 for a week.

We rented a house in Hawaii (Big Island). Then two years later, rented a different house from the same owners, and they gave us a discount because we were already known to them as good renters. We also rented a condo on Kauai from VRBO.

You pay with a credit card so the risk is minimal. Don't just wire money. The site has good pictures and things like maps so you can get maximum info on what you are renting.

And it is so much nicer to have a real house with a kitchen and privacy, as opposed to a hotel room! Especially when you have kids or grandkids along!

I do prefer it to Air BnB, which charges an extra fee.

Starting in Scotland in 2005, then several cities in Italy and two in Hawaii. I've never had any trouble. I would definitely use them for the Keys. I haven't tried Airbnb.
