Jordan is perfectly accepting of western female dress, as is the majority of places in Egypt. If you are staying in 'tourist' areas, you will be fine. I would not feel safe in Egypt as a single woman so was with a tour guide at all times. Take a large scarf to cover your head in mosques.

women. Might cover the hair when you enter a mosque. We went to mosques in Cairo and they were beautiful, cool, and welcoming. As for behavior, just be cool. No need to talk in a load voice. Smile. Watch other people for cues.

I was planning on a mid calf full skirt, and some loose slacks along with a couple of long sleeve cotton tops. I always bring a scarf the "cover the head" thing is universal when visiting religious sites.

The advice from sinkingfeeling and Nitram is excellent. Neither my wife nor I had any problems. We were treated as honoured guests.

Haven't been to Egypt, but we were to plan a trip, we'd adopt the same approach.
