Then by rental car:
Bariloche —> the national parks nearby —> Pucon —> puerto Montt —> Chaiten - got blocked by volcanic eruption and had to take the car back to Puerto Montt —> Osorno (all good and beautiful) —> Bariloche —> Futuleafu —> as far as I could get into the Carreterre Austral before turning back —> Futuleafu —> Bariloche.
Bariloche —> El Calafate by air
By Rental Car:
Calafate —> Perito Moreno Glacier —> 30k hike to Cerro Torre and views of Mt Fitzroy —> Torres del Paine National Park and about 80k of hiking —> Puntas Arenas —> got the car on a ferry to cross the Strait of Magellan to Tierra del Fuego —> Crossed the island on a very remote dirt road to the Argentinian side and drove to Ushuaia —> more national parks, hiking, and a boat ride in the Beagle Strait to checkout Antarctic wildlife —> Rio Gallegos after being the last car to fit on the last midnight ferry cross Magellan again with no hotels at all (whew! I love to wing it - if I was with my wife, she would have killed me for the risks I took!) —> El Calafate
El Calafate —> Buenos Aires by air
Buenos Aires —> NYC
