*I can't afford to fly anywhere to go on a vacation (including the US) and if I spent a ton of hard earned savings to only subjected to travel delays, super hot temps, severe rain and fires I would be really pissed off at myself.
Greece and Italy are encouraging tourism and downplaying the extremes.

(33,344 posts)I'll be split between Italy and Costa Rica when we retire . I'm looking forward to easy jet fares and fast trains to see all of the little towns and places in Europe.
My husband has been traveling back and forth to Croatia for dental work this year - and I'm dying to go there! The pictures are Amazing.
We take a train to Bologna then a bus to Croatia.
After visiting his siblings in Italy and Germany this past Christmas - I'm in love with the public transportation.

I watched my father in law's end of life care in Italy (easy) and the hoops we had to jump through for my dad. I do not want to be an elderly person at end of life in America.

Not my idea of a vacation. YMMV
But, I might just volunteer for a South Pole station.
