No, I don't believe what's in the new testament is in any way reflective of what someone might have said in the middle east in the first century. However, the new testament is supposed to be the critical part of the bible for Christians. The whole idea of Jesus was that he was supposed to supplant and, to a certain extent, turn previous law and thinking on its head. The idea was to substitute love for law.

Not only is that a direct quote from the bible, he is quoted as saying the same thing in other ways as well.

It’s important to remember the so-called “new” covenant originated with Paul long after Jesus was gone. Jesus was first and foremost a Rabbi, and had he traveled around telling Jews they can deep six Moses’ law he would have either been shunned or executed far sooner than he was.

The biggest reason for the new covenant was Moses’ law stated you don’t step foot in the synagogue with a foreskin. In order for Paul to bring the gentiles and more importantly the wealth of the gentiles to the party, he had to change the rules as getting cut as an adult was out of the question.

Jesus supposedly said that the "eye for an eye" thing was wrong, and that we should turn the other cheek and forgive. That's what he supposedly said. I doubt it, but so it appears in the New Testament.

Trump is no Christian. Not in any way. He knows nothing about Christianity.

I'm not a Christian either, but I'm very familiar with Christianity.
