Religion

I started a post over in the Lounge that brought this character to mind.
This is Harvey Comics, the people who gave us Casper, Wendy, Richie Rich, Little Audrey, and Baby Huey.
The imagery stems from religion, from the horns down to the magic diapers. I think I read that it once extended to the feet. Original concept drawings had him with cloven hooves.
Even as a kid I wondered who his parents were. I'm surprised he never got the attention of the religious right.

(14,118 posts)I loved Audrey, Dot and Ritchie rich. I think somewhere in my parents garage I still have some of those comics.

(970 posts)They are the two poles of ... one unitary religious system. Can't have one without the other it seems.
If you're going to claim one Creator being is absolutely perfect, then you need another being to explain all the imperfect things all around. Like a full diaper.
If God created all things? Then he created all the evil in the universe. And He created Satan too.
Maybe the religious right doesn't object, because they know they are deep down, related to the devil.
Often they confess they ARE sinners. And that there's a devil inside of them.
Maybe if they faced that a little more, they'd reform themselves better.
Or chuck the whole polarized binary system. And learn to see shades of grey, so to speak.
