Stacy Bailey, who was on paid leave, reached a $100,000 settlement with the Mansfield Independent School District last week, her attorney said.
The district near Fort Worth agreed to remove the eight-month leave from her record, as well as offer mandatory training on LGBTQ issues to human resources and counseling staff in its schools.

"I think this settlement was a win-win for Stacy, the educators and the students of Mansfield ISD," Smith said. "The judge in this case ruled that gay teachers are protected by the Constitution. That's a precedent that will protect every gay teacher in this country."

(36,900 posts)Along with opinion shows that reinforce narrowminded bigotry. The only thing the so-called conservatives really want to conserve is their hate.
The reality is they represent an increasingly shrinking demographic and the hate they hope to pass on to future generations is just going to insure they will be further marginalized by society. So while I'm sure they won't go away without a lot of kicking and screaming, in the end they will still wind up on the dustbin of history.

(6,448 posts)anonymous source 10 years ago during that Collins story), then each school district should have LGBTQ staff as well. How else can we reach out to kids who are struggling with identity, rejection at home or bullying in public? They need role models and adults who have "been there".
I cringe when I hear teachers say homophobic, racist or sexist things around me. I know for a fact they are lousy teachers who aren't objective in the classroom. (I also know one nurse who could work for our "great and glorious leader" by how often she uses racial slurs.)
These kids are already experiencing a social and emotional deficit and shouldn't fall through the cracks any longer. We need a level playing field.

(Did I get that right?)
We must ignore the countries where it is punishable by death and what they have in common.
