Strange Noises in Norther Virginia
Hello Everyone!
Last night 12/20/11, there were some really loud and creepy sounds coming from something. It sounded kinda like a big spaceships engine trying to turn over..lol or a giant propeller. It usually starts around 11pm or 12am and last until around 2:30am It's happened before too, usually once a month since the earthquake. Is anyone in the northern virginia area and heard this? Has anyone anywhere else in the country heard anything like this? Are there any thoughts to an explanation if you have? Thank you so much for any thoughts you may have!

(39 posts)loud. And, there's never anything on the news about it.
This is what it sounds a lot like. The people in the video are waiting for a storm that never comes in FL. They say their house was shaking but I haven't experienced that.

(29,414 posts)"Is there any fracking going on in your area?" Having lived around the petro-chemical industry most of my life, I've heard all manner of sounds and noises from them. The other possibility is noise from a pipeline, either from cleaning it ("pigging" or they're hydro-testing a new one.
Here's some information on the pipeline possibility: http://www.science-frontiers.com/sf068/sf068g13.htm
From that same site, is a search I did on "hums" which can include loud mechanical noises:

While I do believe UFO and such activity is worthy of study, I tend to rationalize unusual sounds and sights first. The weirdest sound I've ever heard came during the full force of Hurricane Ike. The wind was making noise all by itself, without needing a structure to vibrate. Of course, it was also going an estimated 135 mph a hundred feet off the ground
