Hi guys..I'm new here and I'm cross-posting a thread I posted in AWPS at the suggestion of Kentauros
I've had instances, not many, but a few, of the paranormal in my life and one, in particular has always
puzzled me, and I'm looking for any kind of feedback or knowledge anyone would care to lend me.
When I was a seven year old walking to school in my very ordinary middle class neighborhood, I saw
what seemed the specter of a colonial carriage as I crossed a street I'd crossed many times without seeing
anything -- This was a VERY dead quiet neighborhood, especially in the middle of the day.
Kentauros has suggested it was NOT a specter because my brief glance at this thing was accompanied
by a 'whirling" sensation that I never understood. He claims the feeling suggests I was looking at, or
or going though a space-time portal, something I knew next to nothing about until today, and still don't.
If I may, let me re-post my story here:
It was in the middle of the afternoon in the quiet residential neighborhood in Philadelphia that I lived in.
My sister and I were walking back to school after our lunch break as we always did. I was seven and she was twelve.
Crossing the street, I looked both ways, as always, but on this day I saw -- and felt -- something VERY
different. I saw a carriage with two footmen at the helm, white wigs and all. This neighborhood was part of the city of Philadelphia, PA, which is, of course, old and historic. The area in question was NOT part of the city two centuries ago, but it was directly connected to it by a very old historic road called Bristol Pike and that road was just one block from the sighting.
As I said in my original post, I saw this carriage. It was there, but not "there" in quite the same way as other things
are. It had a slight filmy quality to it, and, though it didn't scare me at all, looking at it gave me an inner "whirling"
feeling that I'd never experienced before or since.
For the record, I pointed it out to my older sister, but she angrily denied it's existence: "It's not there! There's
nothing there"! My sister was kind of pissy at that age, and I didn't bother arguing with her, but I knew what
I saw. I brought up the subject to her as an adult, but she says she doesn't remember any of it.
Nothing like this has happened to me before or since, and I'd be interested in anyone's thoughts about it. Thanks.

(6,811 posts)the environment picked up images and sounds like magnetic tape and periodically played it back. the whirling sensation is likely magnetic distortion affecting your perceptive senses. you can get this in highly charged areas; in fact, you may have felt several "whirlies" last year as the magnetic pole was resettling.
often people angrily deny the existence of things as a coping mechanism. usually such requests spur curiosity or plain confusion from others not sharing the experience. vehement denial is rather out-of-character for such an odd yet relatively innocuous non sequitur. don't press such people, they need their coping strategy. and by now she could have genuinely forgotten the incident, having pushed it away for so long.
whathehell
(29,801 posts)but if the area is highly charged, one would have to wonder why I'd see it only once
in the course of a lifetime which included thousands, if not tens of thousands, of additional
exposures to that intersection.
As for the vehemence of my sister's denial, it may be odd, but that is what happened.
and yes, I'd already concluded it, along with her memory loss, as part of her coping strategy.

(6,811 posts)certain stones, like sandstone, are already known to record residual sounds and play them back seemingly randomly later.
going through the area repeatedly has no bearing on whether you should see it again, though. living in California i can assure you that we will have more earthquakes. but as often as i go through my hometown roads, they still seem to occur randomly.
to use a cute parallelism, something can be predictably frequent without actually being frequently predictable (in our reference of time), let alone predictable when frequented.
whathehell
(29,801 posts)As for the rest, I don't disagree with you, though, as with earthquakes, it would be nice
if we could frequently predict rather than deal with the "predictably frequent".
I'm sorry, NF, but from your first post onward, I've found your tone to be oddly cold and unfriendly.
I suggest we quit while we're ahead.

(34,966 posts)you're asking for opinions & feedback, someone gives it to you (in what i read as two intelligent and friendly posts that even included a wink) and you judge their response so harshly and negatively that you don't want to hear anymore from them?
wow--well, for the record, i found your response to them "oddly cold and unfriendly"--far more so than their posts to you.
i was going to give you my opinion/thoughts on your op but i doubt you're interested in what i have to say at this point.
i realize it's late & i'm tired, but i have read over NFs two posts to you several times and they both seem logical and polite.

It's easy to do with email, you know.
I just thought my opening post was particularly friendly and NF's was not so much.
But, you're right -- I probably "jumped the gun"....I'll go make amends with NF right now.
ETA: When I say "email", I actually mean "posting online"...It's difficult to discern
tone, emotion, etc.

and I'll confess, in addition, to being somewhat thin-skinned.
Can we start again?
ETA. When I say "email" I mean online posting, of course..I just got used to saying "email"
and what that means is that it's difficult to discern "tone", and "emotion", etc.

(6,811 posts)you missed out on my elitist, nasal whine is all.
we're fine. i know myself that feeling believed is crucial after such an experience. we tend to feel raw and exposed after bearing our uncertainty with our brush with the unknown. last thing you want is feeling like someone is brushing you off.
but, after lots of encounters with the unknown, and things that seem like it, i find it reassuring to go methodically through all possibilities. helps me stay grounded and is noticeably comforting to others. sometimes it finds a readily available explanation. i believe you and am trying to help through process of elimination.
it is important because it sharpens the mind to recollect details on why it couldn't be the easy answer. it's the process to realize you were with it to notice details. it's not "just you," you were clear enough to notice XYZ was also off, therefore you compile facts for your experience. when you go through the easy answers, and they failed, you are then left reassured that it is the unknown.
it is a conversation to help recover details, convey them, and reinforce your experience. it may seem cold at first, but like a cold shower, it's really there to keep you focused. afterwards the surety gained keeps you warm against self-doubt.
right now in this process you'd check my idea of sandstone recording of voices (internet should have some examples) and compare them to your experience. you are the only person who can do this right, as i wasn't there. then you come back and say i was wrong, and how so. thus more details get remembered and compiled. and through elimination you come to the comforting knowledge that you are right, it is unknown, and are one step closer to what it could be!
whathehell
(29,801 posts)I'm only sorry that I missed out on the elitist, nasal whine.
I will definitely check out the sandstone recording of voices. Is it, by chance, anything like EVP -- the electronic
voice phenomenon, that supposedly catches the voices of spirits on audio tape?
In truth, I'm not, by nature, inclined toward the methodical, but I certainly recognize it's importance in
getting to the truth of a matter, so thanks for your good advice -- I'll get back to you when I check out
the sandstone recordings.
NuttyFluffers
(6,811 posts)the former is when it "tapes" people whispering. others record activity, like crashing dishes, even gunfire (albeit a bit muted), at a pretty clear and voluble level. it's surprisingly freaky!
the challenge is your visual experience. i don't think there's been any recordings of visual "playback" though some claim experiencing such. but then at that point how is that different from a residual apparition? it is a challenge, there's a lot of studf to comb through.
i have heard of time slipping, and there's a few bits of citation out there about it. but it is significantly less common. you'll have an easier time collecting info on mineral playback and residual hauntings/apparitions. saves research time elminating the easier to compare stuff.

(5,510 posts)When we are children, we "allow" ourselves to see things that we don't accept/allow as adults, because we have been programmed that they don't "make sense". Children are much more open to connecting to other dimensions/time portals, as they have not been tainted by "socially accepted" protocols.
Perhaps you might want to have a regression to take you back to that day. It might give you more info that you can more logically process now that you are an adult.
whathehell
(29,801 posts)or another phenomenon I've heard about whereby certain past images are "imprinted" on an environment.
I've read a couple of theories and they're all interesting. The "whirled" sensation is the one aspect I had
no explanation for until Kentaurous pointed out the possibility of portals.
The fact of children being more open to such phenomenon is something I've known about for awhile
and, I always credited it, in fact, as the likely reason I saw the image while my older sister did not.
Regression is certainly an interesting option in this case, but I'm afraid it's seems a little scary/intimidating
to me. Have you ever been regressed? Would love to hear about if, if so.
Thanks again for your input.
southerncrone
(5,510 posts)but it was a group regression at a seminar. There were about 40 of us in the room together. We each had our own experience. I have also been "self regressed" during meditation, although it was not intentional on my part at the time. I just re-experienced a happening in my toddler yrs, which explained some of my actions at the time. It was UFO related. Yeah, I'm different. I wear my tinfoil proudly!

(5,510 posts)We went to live w/Mom's parents who were in the process of building their retirement home in a somewhat isolated area. They were building it largely themselves. I was a "wanderer" & would often wander out of sight while they were busy w/the building. Since this was mainly a wooded area, I could easily become "lost" (to them, not me ). To help in quickly finding me, for my 3rd birthday Mom bought me a bright red coat to wear. There are pictures of me wearing that coat. I had a vague feeling that I was "meeting" with someone/thing and having a real sense of mission, as I reflected back on those days.
One day during meditation, I recalled wearing my red coat & being in a small "Airstream trailer" by my grandparent's garden which was bordered by woods & about 100 yds from the house. I related to this image because I had an aunt & uncle from MI who would visit in one. Inside, were 3 "people"; one was an older man (think Obie 1 Kenobe), a beautiful women in her early 40s & a young man in his mid 20's. The older man & woman were consoling me & "reasoning" w/me, as I was very upset. The younger man had the feel of a warrior, yet a gentle one. Though he was certainly on their "team", he did not interact as directly as the other two. I desperately wanted to "go with" them but they insisted I could not right then, but they promised me....."they would come back for me"! The feeling in this meeting was one of peace & love. I knew they were members of my "family", members I desperately missed. The feeling of caring & closeness was extremely strong.
I have always had a fascination w/the stars & my dream career was to be an astronomer (lack of physics aptitude derailed that). Anyway, I was 35 when I had this "self-regression" back to the "Airstream trailer". I then knew it was actually a UFO.
Unfortunately, I've not had any experiences of this type since...that meditation was over 20 yrs ago. However, this regression gave me a sense of peace & I am very thankful it was revealed to me.

(21,363 posts)Einstein believed that all time exists simultaneously, which could possibly explain your observations. I feel it is a possible explanation for ghosts, UFOs, etc. We are simply open and observe more than usual when these things are observed.
http://everythingforever.com/einstein.htm
I believe that Quantum Physics is where we will find that science meets spirit. Einstein had some issues with the quantum world, but he would have come around eventually.
Or maybe I'm just touched in the head.
I spent so much of my life trying to figure 'it' all out. If I could only understand people, their motivations, passions, etc., everything would be alright. People tend to reject you when you try to connect that deeply.
I have learned it is all so simple, but at the same time extremely difficult to comprehend how simple it is, because we expect things to be more complicated.
I have seen people that I knew were dead, doing ordinary things. Leaning against a building, waiting to go into a movie... Have never experienced what you have with the past eras though. How cool to see!
Energy cannot be destroyed, only changed.
Maybe I'm making no sense whatsoever, if so, I do apologize. It's late and I am tired, but you kick started my brain again for the night with your experiences. I tend to ramble on the days I can focus enough to write or read much.

(29,801 posts)I'll be honest, not being very science-oriented, Quantum physics is just not
comprehensible to me. That being said, and perhaps it has something to do with
my experience, I have what can only be characterized as an intuitive agreement that all time
is happening at once.
Can you tell us about the first time you saw someone you knew was dead?
Were you scared, or did you consider approaching them and saying "Hi"?
Inquiring minds want to know.

(21,363 posts)He brought big shooters to town like Minnesota Fats and others, iirc, and could shoot with the best of them, even with one arm. I saw him leaning against the front of the pool hall as I drove by it. He looked me right in the eyes and nodded. He had been gone for maybe 4 or 5 years by then. If it hadn't been for the missing arm, would have just figured it was somebody that looked like him. Creeped me out.
I also saw the wife of an ex. She had committed suicide after they separated, before him and I were together. Again was driving, by the movie theater this time, and saw her outside. She looked right at me and lifted her hand in a slight wave. I am still not sure it was her for certain, but her hair was down to her butt and the same color. I didn't see her when I looked back.
I saw a neighbor's mother outside a grocery store, about 4 or 5 years after she had died of breast cancer. She was a very distinctive looking woman. She was an older school teacher when she married, and a die-hard fundamentalist. Destroyed a Simon and Garfunkle album over the song, Cecilia. She was tall and had short frizzy permed hair and thick glasses. She looked right at me, no nod or wave.
These may have been just people that looked like them, i have no way to prove anything, but when you recognize someone, you just do. I thought after each time that I should have turned right around and gone back, but was seriously too chicken.
Freaked me out for awhile, wondering if some of the people I saw everywhere were from another dimension, which I believe death may be.
These incidents, and other strange happenings throughout my life, helped lead me to the quantum world, looking for answers.
As far as Quantum Physics goes, my brain hurts after reading much of it, but the ideas and theories are so fascinating I just keep trying to learn more. I'm a total amateur in it.
whathehell
(29,801 posts)"dead people" in just the same way, doing the same mundane things they did in life...In your case,
it seems to have happened too many times, with the resemblance being too dead on (no pun intended!) to be
the living who may have resembled them.
I, too, would probably be too "chicken" to go and talk to them. :scared
Your point about the dead going to another dimension resonates with me, as it's something I've thought on before.
The theory, which may correlate with quantum physics, you can tell me, is that heaven or the "afterlife" is not a place
and certainly not in "the sky" some atheists mockingly refer to, but another dimension.
I've read that this dimension operates at a higher frequency than ours does and on reading that, I did recall
a childhood "memory", which may have been a "dream" rather than an actual memory, but it did coincide with that
description of another dimension which seemed to vibrate at a higher frequency.
I'll be happy to tell you about it in my next post, but for now, I have to go to bed -- So tired, arranging and packing for
a last minute, but long trip overseas....I'm bringing my notebook, so I'll definitely be checking back in with you.

(29,414 posts)It's a combination of things, one of which will be taken care of tomorrow (root canal.) I'll probably have to keep taking the antibiotics until their done, and I will be happy when that's over. They are part of why I'm not feeling well. They wreak havoc with internal flora, even as I need them for that tooth.
Anyway, first I'll report what I put up on your other thread and then add another experience I had a little earlier than that:
My first experience with telepathy happened back when I was still at university, getting my graphic design degree (which I don't use now) and had met an interesting young woman in one of my classes (can't remember now if it was one of the art classes or art history.) Anyway, we were talking out in the parking lot about spiritual matters and she admitted that she had various mental abilities, including telepathy.
Behind me was one of the entrance-roads to the university (it's kind of "secluded" in a wild/natural setting surrounded by bayous south of here.) I could hear someone driving towards us, but didn't bother to look. She "proved" her ability by asking me what I 'saw' in my mind then. I described a small white car, maybe an old Datsun, and turned to my left to watch the very same car (and overall scene) as was in my mind's eye following the road as it passed our parking lot. She'd put that mental image into my head!
I've never experienced that kind of telepathy since. We never did anything else like that, either, and drifted away as friends.
~~~
Now, the other experience I had wasn't telepathy, only that either it was a vision or another one of those portals. I've always thought it was a vision, but maybe someone else can figure it out.
The time period was early 1980s, early Spring, and maybe spring break, or I was between degrees (just gotten my drafting degree, and was contemplating getting a BA as there were no jobs in drafting at that time.) All I remember distinctly was it being a mild early spring day, and I was reading some science fiction book by the pool (my parents had a nice home with a pool, and a deck we built on later.)
Whatever I was reading had nothing to do with the movement I saw out of the corner of my eye. I believe it was to my right, where nothing should have been there, not even the family pet. Partly because the family dog was nowhere near as large as the black panther I saw sauntering up to me.
There was no malicious intent from it, either. More like it knew me or I was a friend to it. Of course, I looked to see what I thought I was seeing, only for it to fade away when I did that. I never got a direct view of it, yet my peripheral view seemed quite detailed. I think it was male, too, though my memory of that impression has faded a bit over the years.
I've never had a waking vision like that before or since (other than the telepathy above.) Everything else has been auditory, and those almost always upon waking. I can get into those in another post
